Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars

April 14th, 2009 by Wii Game Reviews

After witnessing the brutal and horrifying murder of one of Paris’s richest and most influential statesman, the player will be pulled into a sinister conspiracy rooted in a long forgotten medieval legend. New puzzles have been added that specifically utilize Nintendo’s unique stylus control. The game also features stunning animated facial expressions drawn by Dave Gibbons, artistic genius behind the comic book and upcoming movie Watchmen.

Broken Sword, the renowned series by Charles Cecil, makes its way to the Nintendo Wii, and old fans and new players alike won’t be disappointed in this “Director’s Cut” version. The classic adventure game series is brought up to date with a new narrative loosely based on the original and with game play mechanics that take advantage of the unique aspects of the Nintendo Wii.

The original Broken Sword was praised for its engaging story line that kept players guessing what would happen next. This version closely follows the original story but adds an interwoven narrative that serves as a prequel to future games.

Specifically, the game explores the history of the female protagonist Nico, and how her mysterious past connects with the events that are unfolding in the story. All this new material is seamlessly added to the original.

Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars Features

  • Update to the original adventure game with a new narrative
  • Puzzle-based gameplay takes full advantage of the Wii controls
  • Long, engrossing storyline
  • Graphics and animation done by Dave Gibbon of Watchmen fame
  • Provides foreshadowing and context for later games in the series

Instead of going at it alone, you can also add a second player to the fray in the Wii version. Two cursors show up on the screen, and one player becomes the main player while the second highlights areas of interest on the screen. Working co-operatively adds another dimension to the game and allows the game to be enjoyed simultaneously by two players.

September 29th, 2008 by Wii Game Reviews

The Star Wars saga continues in Lucasarts’ latest videogame epic Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Casting players as Darth Vader’s “Secret Apprentice”, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. The expansive story of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, created under direction from George Lucas, is set during the largely unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. In Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, players will assist the iconic villain in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi – and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny.

As its name implies, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed completely re-imagines the scope and scale of the Force by taking full advantage of newly developed technologies: Digital Molecular Matter (DMM) and Euphoria. Alone in the Dark

June 29th, 2008 by Wii Game Reviews

Alone in the Dark

There’s something strange and frightening happening in the middle of New York City’s Central Park; something whispered to have been intentionally kept secret; something that players are compelled to explore in Alone in the Dark.

Known today as a safe haven for New Yorkers yearning for relief from the stresses of their chaotic metropolis, history records that Central Park was built on a useless swamp, yet as the New York City skyline hurtled towards the sky over the last 150 years, making the city the most expensive real estate in the world, the park has remained untouched. Why? Civic pride? Perhaps, but the recent strange happenings in and around the park are casting doubt on that, doubts that require investigating.

Despite the title, Alone in the Dark is actually the fifth game in a series that dates back to 1992 and centers around the experiences of Edward “the reptile” Carnby. A paranormal investigator by trade, Carnby is looking for answers to the strange events and horrific creatures reported in and around the park, but gets more than he bargained for when all the mysteries and terrors of the park spill out over the course of one apocalyptic night. It’s the player’s task to avoid the new frightening dangers of the park as you search for the answers to what these supernatural occurrences mean and why they are happening.

Packed full of action and vivid in its realism Alone in the Dark goes to the extreme to keep players engaged and immersed by plunging them into the heart of the action in real-time at every turn and challenging them to survive using full movement control. The goal here is to allow players to do or at least feel that they can do more or less whatever is possible in real life, within the game.
